ICELAND HEALTH MASTER ADVENTURE BEGINS

SUMMERHOUSE HOLIDAY IN ICELAND. Arrival, deep spa steams and soaks, deep sleeps, then Lilja, Gitte and I drive to a summerhouse on a forested hill, a charming cabin surrounded by a soft cloud of Equisteum marestail/horsetail herb, the perfect surrounding for deep rest, relaxed good company, wonderful raw and living food and a hike. We are sleeping over the European volcanic fault and hike up on a ridge of the fault, looking at the calm beauty of the countryside yet aware of deep lava and heat. Our hot pot fills with hot spring water and we soak long and well in the early morning sun and the late afternoon evening misty soft gentle rain.

We hike, searching for blueberries and find them, small, potent, delicious and we pick and eat and on our way home we are met at our gate by a herd of at least 15 or more Icelandic horses and they nuzzle and explore us with sweet curiosity and then dash away all together with a wild sound of hooves. Wonderful.

Back in Reykjavik now to walk and plan and prepare for our Friday evening orientation, intro games and beauty offering. Saturday the Elements of Life dances begin - our journey with 31 students. Today we booked the retreat center, an eco village in a hot spring valley, perfect for a deep living food transformational advanced training retreat and graduation - I love this country! We already have students lining up to begin next year, thrilled to start their Self-Healing.

Aug 23 2007. We completed the last day of Level II. Shae, Misty, Sal, Rebecca, Heather, Noella exchanging sessions, loving being together, giving and receiving profound experiences, all the while sharing, laughing, discovering so much more. Participants excelled in achieving a fine skill for Self-Healing and professional treatments. Next Reflexology Level I - February 2008.

SNM STUDENT JAPAN ADVENTURE

Chris, our Washington DC student, almost ready to graduate as a Naturopath, reports on his latest adventure - climbing to the top of Mt. Fuji in Japan.

Dearest Farida...I love the blog newsletter.  I can't imagine not receiving the beautiful testimonials!  Along with my experiences, it strengthens my knowing of the process and efficacy of natural healing.  What a treat you and your school are!

Just arrived back from a trip to Japan.  I spent a great deal of time in the Onsens (natural hot springs), ate copious amounts of miso soup, seaweeds, fermented foods, green teas, and the occasional cooked meal (like tofu dishes, and too much rice!). 

I enjoyed a spiritual pilgrimage up Mt. Fuji-san, the soaring peak venerated as the home of a fire god, later the dwelling of a Shinto goddess of flowing trees, and since Buddhist times, the abode of Dainichi Nyorai, the Buddha of All-Illuminating Wisdom.  The trip was arduous (4,841 vertical feet!) yet satisfying, as I meditated upon the spirit of the venerated mountain.   

Going to get into deeper study with Kava Kava, as I've had numerous discussions with co-workers who have anxiety-related insomnia.  Will report on my findings! 

I love what you're doing.  I hope to join you again for one of your classes.  When the time is right, it will manifest.  I think of you fondly EVERYDAY, dear teacher. 

SUMMER SCHOOL HERBAL STUDIES

Herbals. Experiential learning of plant identification, tinctures,
flower essences, ointments & salves, wild foods, plant signatures,
herbal energetics, ethical harvesting and more.

Elements of Life

Farida, The dances were absolutely amazing. It opened up a natural side of me that wants to explore and go deep within to understand my authentic self. The dances made me aware of my physical body and my emotional feelings that surfaced in each of the different elements.

I realize I have a lot to release and a new healthy life to explore. I am inspired and excited to continue my experience with the school and heal myself from within and without! Thank you so much for the beautiful days we spent exploring the elements.

HEALING INVISIBLE WOUNDS

I discovered this site on featured typepad blogs and was totally excited by the work of Richard Mollica to draft a manifesto for the wounds of the world and the healers of the world. Not all wounds are so invisible, as injured, dysfunctional, depressed and emotionally unstable people are everywhere around us seeking refuge in addiction and illness depending on their levels of frozen imprisoned trauma. At the School of Natural Medicine we commit to personal Self-Healing on our journey to support, guide and assist others in their Self-Healing. Note point 8: SNM totally believes in beauty!!! Yes. His Manifesto has 11 points and begins with :

1. The goal of healing has always been primarily the relief of human suffering. The healer must embrace with ardor this primary principle and subordinate the now dominant ambitions of speed and the obsession with the power of machines and molecules.
2. We declare that the patient is a beautiful living organism that freely acts and loves in a family and a community and is not an isolated body part or a disembodied mind. The healer must have a relationship to the man, woman or child and their social and cultural context. Otherwise, human cruelty will continue to freely operate as a pathogen.
